Minor causes incident on ride at Ometepec fair

During the Ometepec Expoferia 2026, a minor unauthorizedly activated a mechanical ride, causing an incident that left at least four people injured. According to Civil Protection authorities and security reports, the minor managed to access the control cabin of the ride known as 'The Pendulum', manipulated the controls, and then fled the scene. Videos show the moment of the accident. In recordings circulating on social media, the minor is seen operating the control panel, pressing buttons and moving levers without supervision. Seconds later, the ride began to move irregularly and at a higher speed, which likely caused a temporary failure in the safety systems. During the incident, a young woman lost her balance and remained suspended from the safety bar for several seconds before falling from a height of approximately three meters. The operator attempted to stop the ride manually; however, the system experienced a temporary lock after the unauthorized manipulation. Four injured people were reported after the incident. Elements of the Guerrero Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection Secretariat attended the scene to handle the emergency. The official toll was four injured people: a young woman was urgently taken to the IMSS-Bienestar hospital in Ometepec, where her health status is reported as guarded. The other three affected individuals suffered minor injuries and nervous breakdowns and were treated on site. The minor and his parents are being sought, and safety measures are being reviewed. Local authorities reported that the search for the minor and his parents is already underway, using the videos that have been circulated. In addition, an inspection of the company responsible for the rides, 'Atracciones Martínez', has begun to determine if it had the necessary safety measures, particularly in securing the control area. For now, the mechanical rides area remains under supervision while it is verified that all rides comply with the protocols before resuming operations.
