Puebla City Council Approves Federal Aid Request

The Cabildo of Puebla approved that the municipal president, José Chedraui Budib, request an advance on federal contributions to cover the operational expenses for the rest of the year, due to the debt inherited from the previous administration.

During the Ordinary Session, the 25 members of the City Council unanimously voted in favor of making the request to the State Secretariat of Planning and Finance (SPF). The federal resources that correspond to the municipality come from the General Fund of Contributions and the Stabilization Fund of the Revenues of the Entities, as well as from the compensations and adjustments that the Federation makes to the Government of Puebla.

José Chedraui Budib explained that articles 40 and 41 of the Coordination Fiscal Law of the state of Puebla and its municipalities stipulate the allocation of these resources. Furthermore, he pointed out that the Fiscal Coordination Law allows for the advance of federal contributions when necessary.

The Mayor specified that he will inform how the resources will be applied as this request progresses to ensure transparency regarding the communal expenses.

In recent statements, José Chedraui mentioned that his predecessor, Adán Domínguez Sánchez, left a financial deficit ranging from 450 to 680 million pesos, which means that all departments of the City Council are facing debts, even reaching the point of owing basic payments such as telephone service.
