The Puebla City Council initiates a comprehensive maintenance project for traffic signals and signage, improving over 3,400 traffic signals until 2027 for better road safety.

Puebla Begins Major Traffic Signal Upgrades

The Puebla City Council, through the Secretary of Mobility and Infrastructure, has launched an ambitious preventive and corrective maintenance project for the traffic light network and road signage in the capital. It was announced that this will take place as part of the national public bidding CMA-LP-SEMOVINFRA-018-2025, recently issued by the Municipal Awards Committee. The comprehensive maintenance service is scheduled until October 14, 2027, coinciding with the end of Mayor José “Pepe” Chedraui Budib's administration.

Maintaining the traffic light network is considered a key infrastructure for road safety in the city. The contract covers maintenance activities for more than 3,400 traffic lights located in Puebla capital, including those in the auxiliary councils. Specific tasks include cleaning and maintaining the electrical network, replacing posts, and ensuring that at least 95% of the traffic light infrastructure operates correctly at all times.

Maintenance will be carried out on all components of the traffic light network, such as buttons, wiring, controls, electronic devices, posts, and communication systems. In addition, the project also includes an important aspect related to road signage, both horizontal and vertical.

In the area of horizontal signage, markings and symbols will be applied to the pavement to regulate traffic, covering at least 100 kilometers of continuous lines and 36,000 square meters of pictograms at 450 intersections in the city. Regarding vertical signage, more than a thousand new signs will be installed to provide crucial information to all public road users, such as warnings, prohibitions, and directions.
