Dry Law in Puebla for Plebiscites

The Puebla City Council has announced that a Dry Law will be implemented, prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages in the city due to the plebiscites that will take place on January 26 in the 17 auxiliary boards of the capital. The measure will come into effect from midnight on Saturday, the 25th, and will extend until Sunday the 26th at 11:59 PM, the day of the elections.

The restriction covers a wide range of establishments, from convenience stores to hotels and social clubs, prohibiting the sale of beer and liquor in both open and closed containers. This law includes warehouses, grocery stores, public restrooms, party halls, bars, and casinos, among others.

The Dry Law affects all businesses that sell or serve alcohol, except for those with special authorization. On the other hand, the plebiscitary day will take place in 17 auxiliary boards of Puebla, including San Andrés Azumiatla, San Pedro Zacachimalpa, and San Miguel Canoa, among others.

It is worth mentioning that prior to these plebiscites, on January 15, Juan Manuel Zenteno, a candidate for the auxiliary presidency of San Pedro Zacachimalpa, was murdered in a direct attack.
