A strong explosion shook the city of Puebla on Tuesday night, causing surprise and concern among its inhabitants. The roar, which lasted about 15 seconds, was heard in different parts of the city and the metropolitan area. Some internet users speculated whether it was an earthquake or an explosion in the Popocatépetl volcano.
Businessman Julián Ventosa captured images of a lightning strike that hit the area surrounding the city of Puebla, from the Inxignia Tower. This atmospheric phenomenon unsettled the population, while authorities recommended staying alert to weather warnings due to the possibility of thunderstorms and strong winds in the coming days.
According to the National Water Commission (Conagua), heavy rains and storms are expected in states such as Puebla, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Chiapas, and Hidalgo starting February 19 for at least three more days. The cold front number 28, combined with an Arctic air mass from the United States, will particularly affect the center of the country, causing a sharp drop in temperatures along with constant precipitation.
In the mountainous areas of Puebla and Hidalgo, intense rains are expected, with possible hail and strong wind gusts. These precipitations, along with persistent rainfall, will delay the typical drought of the coming months. The presence of these storms creates a particularly challenging meteorological scenario for the region.
The loud sound heard in Puebla, which kept its residents on edge for several seconds, triggered speculation and concern on social media. Although a definitive explanation of its origin was ruled out, the images captured of the atmospheric phenomenon show the intensity of the impact experienced in the city.
