Students from the Faculty of Medicine at the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP) have completed two days of protest to denounce irregularities in the assignment of internships and clinical practice positions. They demand an immediate solution to their complaints, while the Academic Unit Council continues to analyze the presented demands.
The protest began when students expressed their dissatisfaction with the reduction of available positions for practices in institutions such as the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers of Puebla (ISSSTEP). Students point out that the problems worsened when they were unable to start their scheduled practices on January 6 due to errors attributed to the Clinical Practice Coordination.
In the vicinity of the Health Area, numerous students have placed banners and participated in improvised meetings, where their main complaint continues to be the reduction of positions for internships and clinical practice, causing great discontent in the student community.
As a result of the protest, Guillermo Vázquez Lara has resigned from the position of director of the Faculty of Medicine, following suspicions of his involvement in the management of the affected positions. Claudia Cedillo has been appointed as the new director of the faculty, with the aim of resuming dialogue with the students and seeking a prompt solution.
Despite these decisions, students have decided to march towards Ciudad Universitaria. They have intermittently blocked nearby streets to the academic unit, such as 25 Poniente and 31 Oriente, affecting traffic in the area. Some protesters have proposed an indefinite strike and the establishment of a sit-in at the facilities, intending to maintain pressure for their demands.
