Puebla to Host Major Sports Events This Year

The city of Puebla will be the venue for important national and international sporting events this year, according to Rommel Pacheco Marrufo, the general director of the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sports (Conade), during his recent visit to the capital of Puebla.

On February 27, Pacheco Marrufo signed a collaboration agreement with Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier with the aim of promoting sports competitions in the state and creating new opportunities for local athletes. During his visit, he highlighted the facilities of the Mario Vázquez Raña sports unit, emphasizing the quality of the sports infrastructure in the city.

In particular, the possibility of organizing a national diving competition in Puebla was mentioned due to the suitable facilities provided by the Mario Vázquez Raña sports unit.

Alejandro Armenta emphasized that the signing of this agreement represents a milestone for Puebla, as it will mark the beginning of a phase in which the state's participation in national and international sporting competitions will be revitalized, aspiring to become a benchmark in this field.

Additionally, the creation of the Sports University in Puebla was announced, recently approved by the local Congress. This institution will offer training in disciplines such as football, basketball, baseball, and boxing, under the direction of José Luis Sánchez “Chelis”, who will be the rector.

The Sports University will be located at what was formerly the Zaragoza stadium, in the Los Fuertes area. The project includes the construction of a modern building, an elevated football pitch, an underground parking lot, an athletics track, an American football field, and a multi-sports facility for contact sports.

This ambitious project is part of efforts to transform the Los Fuertes area in Puebla into the "city of sports,” as highlighted by Governor Armenta, emphasizing the commitment to provide citizens with quality sports facilities.
