The Government of the City of Puebla organized the Forum 'Security is also Ours' at the University of the Valley of Puebla (UVP), with the aim of addressing the challenges women face in terms of security and promoting spaces for dialogue, reflection, and action. In collaboration with the Secretariat of Citizen Security, the Secretariat for Substantive Gender Equality, and the Municipal Syndicate, tools were provided to students to strengthen their security in public, private, and virtual spaces.
The municipal president, Pepe Chedraui Budib, highlighted the importance of making visible the fundamental role of women in the capital and raising awareness about citizen co-responsibility in security matters. During the closing of the event, he emphasized the need to understand the challenges that women face in different areas of security and how to address them.
On the occasion of International Women's Day, the head of the Secretariat for Substantive Gender Equality, Zaira González Gómez, underscored the relevance of eradicating gender-based violence, an unavoidable reality. She recognized the commitment of the municipal president, Claudia Sheinbaum, to the prevention, education, and care of women victims of violence, as well as combating impunity concerning femicides.
For her part, the rector of UVP, María Hortensia, thanked those who participated in the event and emphasized the importance of promoting discussion spaces in universities about women's security. The collaboration between the City Government, the academic community, and public institutions demonstrates a joint commitment to ensuring safer and more equitable environments for all.
