Crisis in the Puebla Citizen Security Secretariat

On Saturday, March 1, municipal agents protested in the Zócalo of the city of Puebla demanding the removal of Gustavo Alonso González Zapata, deputy secretary of Police Operations. Known as 'Sauce', González Zapata was considered one of the closest collaborators of Fernando Rosales Solís, who recently submitted his resignation as head of the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) of Puebla.

After the assassination of two municipal police officers in the Del Valle neighborhood by an armed group, pressure on Rosales' management increased considerably. Although it was initially stated that he would remain in his position, on Monday his departure was announced. This announcement was made by Mayor Pepe Chedraui Budib through his official social media.

Chedraui Budib informed that Rosales Solís will join the Subsecretariat of Criminal Policy, Linkage, and Civil Protection, attached to the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection of Mexico (SSPC). The mayor thanked Rosales for his professionalism and commitment during his management at the SSC of Puebla. Shortly after, it was announced that González Zapata had also submitted his resignation.

Despite the resignations, protests from the police continued and moved to the Municipal Security Complex in Rancho Colorado. The next day, Chedraui Budib met with the officers to address their demands and concerns about safety in the municipality.
