The Puebla City Council has begun the installation of a monumental carpet in the Zócalo of the city as part of the festival "Death is a Dream" to commemorate the Day of the Dead. The artistic work will be available to the public from October 25 to November 3, coinciding with the All Saints season.
Since October 22, a team of artisans has started placing around 20 tons of marble gravel in different colors to shape the carpet. The design incorporates iconic figures such as catrinas and engravings inspired by the work of José Guadalupe Posada, along with representative elements of Puebla's culture, such as Talavera. There are also references to traditional products like mezcal, hojaldras, and sugar skulls.
With an area of 1,200 square meters, the carpet is being created by 20 artisans under the direction of master Francisco Montiel. This work is another example of the cultural activities that are part of the 17th edition of the "Death is a Dream" Festival, which offers more than 50 activities for the whole family during this period in the capital of Puebla.
