The mayor of Puebla, José Chedraui Budi, has announced his determination to urge business owners of nightclubs to allow the connection of their external surveillance cameras to the Emergency and Immediate Response Directorate (DERI) as part of the established regulations.
In a conducted interview, the mayor warned that nightclubs will not be allowed to operate after midnight, and those that do not comply with this regulation will be shut down. José Chedraui stated: "It is a law that must be respected, and we will base ourselves on that." Although specific areas were not mentioned, it was revealed that some business owners have shown willingness to facilitate access to the external surveillance cameras of their establishments to the DERI.
Chedraui Budi mentioned that business owners are being asked to provide the DERI with cameras that point towards the street, with the aim of monitoring the flow of people and strengthening security around the nightclubs. It was emphasized that there is no intention to invade the privacy of businesses, but rather to improve overall security.
Since taking office, the mayor has been closely collaborating with business owners to assess the compatibility of the surveillance cameras with the city's security system. Additionally, it was reported that some residents near the areas of bars and clubs have also offered to allow access to their security cameras.
The discovery of a man's body in the Atoyac River last Saturday, at the limits of Puebla and Santa Clara Ocoyucan, has once again highlighted the importance of security in nightclubs. According to matching physical characteristics and clothing, it is presumed that the body may belong to Luis Ángel Hernández Morales, a young man who was expelled by the guards of a bar located on Avenida Juárez on October 17.
