Marilyn Cote, a lawyer in Puebla, has been reported to date by five patients to whom she prescribed controlled medications without having the authority to do so. Cote's office, located in the Medical Towers, was raided by authorities, finding documents that would confirm that the lawyer did not have the title of psychiatrist to treat patients, according to the state prosecutor, Gilberto Higuera Bernal.
Complaints against Marilyn Cote began to arrive at the Attorney General's Office of the State on November 6, after her case became public on social media. Patients presented prescriptions signed by the lawyer, dated in 2019, as evidence against her. Alan Villegas, prosecutor of Metropolitan Investigation, requested information from the federal and state Secretariats of Public Education, as well as from the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla to investigate Cote's alleged studies.
During the raid at Marilyn Cote's office, documents were found that showed she did not have the necessary qualification to practice as a psychiatrist and prescribe controlled medications to her patients. Prosecutor Higuera Bernal indicated that there could be other crimes related to the health of individuals, besides usurpation of functions.
So far, Marilyn Cote has not been arrested nor is she a fugitive from justice. Authorities are taking measures to ensure she does not flee to another location. The investigation continues and it is expected that by the end of the week more details about the case of the lawyer who posed as a psychiatrist in Puebla will be available.
