The toll operator in charge of collecting fees on the Puebla-Atlixco highway will be sanctioned for failing to respond to emergency calls from motorists who were assaulted early Wednesday morning. The State Attorney General's Office (FGE) has initiated an investigation in this regard.
In an interview, the director of the Puebla Toll Roads (CCP), Norma Layón Aarun, specified that the highway is granted to the company Promotora y Operadora de Infraestructura (Pinfra), which is responsible for providing assistance to users in case of emergencies. Contact has already been established with the highway concessionaire on Boulevard Atlixcayotl to address the security situation on that route, and they have been asked to improve their response to reported incidents.
"Let us remember that the concessioned roads were granted in previous years, so we are attentive to ensure that the necessary assistance is provided to all users and, of course, that reports are received in a timely manner," expressed Norma Layón Aarun.
In the event of a proven lack of attention by the concessionaire, sanctions will be imposed, primarily of an economic nature. Authorities have coordinated efforts with the Department of the Interior to provide assistance to the affected, and the Attorney General's Office is already working on identifying those responsible.
At least 12 vehicles may have been affected in this incident, with drivers stranded for several hours. Although they attempted to contact the emergency line provided on the toll tickets, they received no response.
"There are indeed sanctions. Whenever there is misuse or a deficient response toward citizens, fines are contemplated for concessionaires that do not comply with what is stipulated regarding user assistance," concluded Norma Layón Aarun.
