The Monzón family has requested the judicial authorities to punish the defendant and two other accused with a 60-year prison sentence, following a recent ruling in which a judge rejected the amparo requested by the defendant's defense. This event has led the case to advance and be presented at an oral trial.
Moreover, the family has urged the Attorney General's Office of the State of Puebla to expedite the process to ensure that justice is served as soon as possible. In a statement, they expressed their demand for the Judiciary of the State of Puebla to act without delay, providing prompt, swift and expedited justice with a gender perspective.
Helena Monzón, the victim's sister, communicated through social media that the Third Collegiate Court in Criminal Matters of the Sixth Circuit of San Andrés Cholula dismissed the amparo requested by the defense of Javier López Zavala, accused of the femicide of her sister. This incident delayed the opening of the trial that was originally scheduled for August 2023.
Cecilia Monzón's family has expressed their trust that the Puebla authorities will fulfill their responsibility to ensure that the trial proceeds without further delays and receives the proper attention to achieve a exemplary conviction. They have stated: “We demand justice for our sister and for all women.”
