The municipal president of Puebla, José Chedraui Budib, plans to extend the concession of public transport stops during his administration to carry out repairs and improvements, such as the installation of internet and surveillance cameras. Chedraui will seek to prolong the contract beyond his term, which ends in October 2027, by presenting a proposal to Governor Alejandro Armenta. "A long or medium-term concession is required," Chedraui expressed, due to the considerable investment needed for the rehabilitation and modernization of bus stops, which must be profitable for the entrepreneurs. A date for the bidding has not yet been defined, as prior meetings will be held with the governor and deputies to obtain the approval of Congress.
The company Clear Channel, which held the advertising concession at the stops for decades, lost its rights in 2022, resulting in a lawsuit against the City Council. After two years of dispute, the judicial authority ruled in favor of the Puebla municipal government.
Regarding other news, Mayor Chedraui announced the construction of the city's first Technological High School, located near Ciudad Universitaria (CU 2) with an investment of 54 million pesos. In an interview after the first ordinary session of the Coplademun, the mayor confirmed that this project will be carried out in collaboration with the rector of BUAP, Lilia Cedillo Ramírez. The funding will be shared between the municipal government, which will contribute the 54 million pesos, and the university, which will provide resources for equipment, maintenance, and the payment of teachers.
