Javier López Zavala, accused of the femicide of activist Cecilia Monzón Pérez, has managed to obtain a new injunction with the aim of ending the preventive detention, less than a month before the oral trial to be sentenced. The family of the lawyer and activist announced that the Second District Court in Criminal Matters granted the injunction, which entails the holding of a hearing to review the preventive detention imposed on López Zavala.
Eliezer Melchor Aguilar, acting secretary of the substitute judge, was in charge of issuing the resolution, instructing the holding of the hearing to decide whether to maintain or modify the precautionary measure of the alleged intellectual femicide of Cecilia Monzón.
The victim's family has expressed their dissatisfaction, stating that the resolution of the injunction ignored the arguments presented by their legal representation and focused on an alleged arbitrariness during the hearing on December 6, where the preventive detention was extended to September 2025. Additionally, they believe that this decision involves re-victimization by having to repeat the hearing and goes against previous decisions regarding injunctions related to the extension of preventive detention in this case.
It is noteworthy that the oral trial against Javier López Zavala for the femicide of Cecilia Monzón is scheduled for March 12, 2025. The family indicated that the strategy of López Zavala's defense is to achieve his release before that date, so they are preparing to continue fighting for justice for Cecilia Monzón.
