The governor of Puebla, Alejandro Armenta Mier, announced the installation of 360° video cameras with facial recognition technology in the parking lot of the Cuauhtémoc stadium. These cameras will be connected to the Metropolitan Public Security Complex (C5) and will aim to monitor the area to prevent excessive charges by the Popular Union of Street Vendors (UPVA) 28th of October to motorists.
Armenta Mier emphasized the importance of merchants respecting the spaces and contributing to the maintenance of the place. He referred to the stadium esplanades as a place for the people of Puebla that must be respected. Additionally, he pointed out that the UPVA 28th of October maintains chaotic control over the parking lot of the Cuauhtémoc stadium, which has led to the deterioration of sidewalks and curbs.
The parking lot control issue dates back to the administration of Sergio Salomón Céspedes Peregrina, who at the time proposed to remove control from the UPVA 28th of October and hand it over to the stadium's concessionaire, Club Puebla. However, this measure was not implemented, and currently, the parking attendants affiliated with the UPVA continue to impose excessive fees on motorists, even leading to aggression against those who refuse to pay.
The governor has already spoken with the municipal president of Puebla, José Chedraui Budib, to coordinate the installation of the video cameras and determine how many will be necessary. The measure aims to maintain order and security in the parking lot of the Cuauhtémoc stadium and prevent abuses by the UPVA 28th of October.
