The Puebla City Council aims to define the new head of the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) before March 25, a decision that will be made in conjunction with the Federation, according to the local government.
In a recent interview, Puebla Mayor José Chedraui Budib mentioned that the selection of the next person in charge of the security of the Puebla capital will be defined within the next 15 days, and the new head must start their functions before March 25.
When asked whether the new secretary would be a military command, the mayor pointed out that they are in that process and mentioned that Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier would travel to Mexico City to address the issue. "There are several names, and God willing, may it bring us the right name," he commented.
Previously, it had been indicated that Omar García Harfuch, head of the Secretariat of Citizen Security and Protection (SSPC), would be in charge of proposing the new head of the SSC of Puebla. The option that has gained the most strength is that of a member of the Navy Secretariat (Semar), although it has not yet been officially confirmed.
The vacancy in the Puebla Citizen Security Secretariat occurred after the resignation of Fernando Rosales Solís, who left his position days after the murder of two municipal police officers in the Del Valle neighborhood, at the hands of an armed group. This crime triggered a series of protests from SSC members, who demanded the removal of high-ranking officials and pointed out deficiencies in the security strategy.
After leaving the SSC, Rosales Solís will join the Undersecretariat of Criminal Policy, Links, and Civil Protection, attached to the Secretariat of Citizen Security and Protection of Mexico (SSPC).
The definition of the new head of security in Puebla is a matter of great relevance, as the city is in a complex context in terms of public safety. The appointment of new leadership is seen as a key step to restore citizens' trust and improve security conditions.
