The facilities of the Tax Administration Service (SAT) in Puebla remained closed this Wednesday, blocked by local farmers demanding the return of taxes since last year. The protesters, from Ciudad Serdán, El Seco, and other municipalities, prevented access to the building located in Angelópolis square, in the capital of Puebla.
The farmers evacuated the place and removed the staff, maintaining their protest for hours. In videos circulated on social media, it was observed how the dissenters pushed a woman to remove her from the building, without intervention from state or federal authorities.
Amid the demonstration, the farmers demanded the dismissal of Juan Ibarra Chávez, local deputy administrator of Fiscal Audit, whom they accuse of abuse of authority and corruption. They also claimed a supposed institutional abandonment of the rural area of Puebla and reported delays in tax returns since last year.
The Ministry of Finance has not issued an official position regarding the situation. On its social media channels and official website, the campaign to submit the annual declaration and the procedures for it is ongoing. They have informed that refund processing can take up to 40 days.
