Mexico's Commitment to Women's Rights in Puebla

The Secretary of Women of the Federal Government, Citlalli Hernández Mora, stated that the true challenge in the fight against gender violence lies in the proper application of existing norms. In a recent statement, she emphasized the importance of public ministries, prosecutors, judges, and magistrates acting with a gender perspective, especially when it comes to cases involving women. Hernández lamented that incorrect or negligent decisions by the competent authorities could prevent victims from accessing justice effectively.

On another topic, the official revealed that the Federation plans to replicate the model of shelters for women victims of violence, inspired by the successful Carmen Serdán Houses developed in Puebla. Hernández praised the work done in Puebla, highlighting that good work is being done in the area of attention and protection for women. She also recognized the commitment of Governor Alejandro Armenta to defend women's rights and the collaboration between the state government and the Federation in programs such as the Carmen Serdán shelters and Libres centers.

The official mentioned the possibility of replicating successful actions implemented in Puebla in other states, with the support of state and municipal governments. She pointed out the importance of working hand in hand with various entities and officials in actions benefiting women, with a focus on autonomy and addressing gender violence. Hernández stressed that the results obtained in Puebla reflect a genuine institutional commitment to addressing women's issues and could serve as a national model.

Regarding the need for legal reforms to address violence against women, Hernández Mora ruled out this possibility, stating that existing laws are sufficient and that it is essential to apply them properly. During her visit to Puebla on the occasion of the commemorative parade for the 5th of May, the Secretary of Women of the Federal Government also referred to the case of the femicide of activist Cecilia Monzón Pérez. She demanded that the case be treated with a gender perspective and with total respect for justice, especially in the legal process against Javier López Zavala, the alleged intellectual author of the crime. Hernández assured that the Secretary's office would be vigilant about the trial's development to ensure proper application of justice in this very important case.
