
In the last six years in the state of Puebla, there have been 29 lynchings with a total of 42 fatalities, according to the Attorney General's Office (FGE). Most of the victims were men, and among them, there was one woman aged between 41 and 50 years.
The circumstances of these lynchings reveal that 13 people died from blows, two were burned, two received gunshot wounds, two were attacked with knives, and in three cases, multiple methods were used, including blows, firearms, and knives. Two of the deceased were young people aged between 15 and 20 years, 12 were between 21 and 30 years old, 19 were in the range of 31 to 40 years old, three were between 41 and 50 years old, while in five cases, the age was not specified.
The Attorney General, Gilberto Higuera Bernal, provided a detailed report on these lynchings, stating that 28 arrests have been made, of which 14 resulted in convictions. The city of Puebla was the scene of the majority of these incidents, followed by municipalities such as San MartÃn Texmelucan and Tecamachalco.
The tally of lynchings shows that in 2019 there were 8 cases, in 2020 there were 7, in 2021 and 2022 there were two each year, in 2023 there were 4 cases, and up to October 2024, 6 lynchings have been recorded. These violent actions that result in the death of individuals are often related to alleged crimes and acts of vigilante justice.
