Puebla Mayor Opens Municipal Palace to Public

The current administration of the Puebla City Council, led by Mayor José Chedraui Budib, decided to remove the turnstiles that limited access to the Municipal Palace. The devices had been installed by the previous administration in July 2024 and became obsolete after the contract with the company Cargo Móvil ended on October 14.

During a public statement, Mayor Chedraui explained that municipal buildings should have open doors and be accessible to all citizens, allowing them to enjoy activities, guided tours, and the architecture of the Municipal Palace without restrictions. Chedraui also mentioned that Cargo Móvil needed to remove the turnstiles, as they were their property, to avoid potential conflicts or accusations of damage to the devices.

In the ordinary Cabildo session, councilwoman María Esther Ortiz Pérez from the Ciudadano Movement party and president of the Civil Protection Commission urged the mayor to ensure that the buildings of various public agencies have emergency exits free of obstructions like keys or locks, to guarantee the safety of visitors and employees in emergency situations.

According to the contract between the City Council and Cargo Móvil, the municipality paid 131,847 pesos including taxes for the installation and commissioning of the access control system. The intention behind this measure is for citizens to have the opportunity to visit the Municipal Palace every day without access restrictions and enjoy its facilities freely and safely.
