The Querétaro Arena: An Icon of Wrestling

La Arena Querétaro, inaugurated on January 6, 1982, with a capacity for 3,500 people, has become a pillar of the promotion and development of lucha libre in the country. Located on Felipe Ángeles Street in the España neighborhood, this venue was conceived and built by the renowned independent promoter Carlos Maynes, who sought to create a space dedicated to the spectacle of wrestling in the Querétaro entity.

Since its opening, it has been the stage for memorable fights featuring legendary figures of lucha libre. Among the wrestlers who have stepped onto its ring are El Hijo del Santo, Mil Máscaras, Perro Aguayo, Los Brazos, Lola González, Rosy Moreno, Canek, and the imposing André the Giant. Throughout its more than four decades of existence, this venue has hosted championship matches of great importance. Another notable match was between Villano III and Fishman.

After the death of Carlos Maynes in April 2015, the management of the arena was taken over by Marco Octavio Mejía, who now tries to keep the tradition of lucha libre alive in our entity. On January 8, 1985, for example, a match was held between El Hijo del Santo and El Negro Casas, two of the greatest figures of Mexican lucha libre. Despite facing challenges such as competition from television and decreased attendance at events, Mejía incorporated boxing functions and other shows to attract different audiences.

The venue continues to be an emblematic space that maintains the tradition of Mexican lucha libre, offering fans the opportunity to enjoy high-level spectacles.
