President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that the workday nationwide will be gradually reduced from 48 to 40 hours per week, with the goal of establishing this change definitively by the year 2030. Mauricio Kuri, governor of Querétaro, expressed his support for this measure, stating that it will improve people's quality of life.

He highlighted that Querétaro ranks seventh nationally in terms of labor formality according to INEGI data, indicating that the effects of this reduction in working hours could be significant in the state. Kuri expressed concern for key sectors such as construction and auto parts manufacturing, mentioning the importance of Mexico's competitiveness based on labor and working hours.

The governor emphasized the need to thoroughly study the impact of this measure, considering the possibility that it may not affect the country's competitiveness. He pointed out that the reduction in working hours might require hiring more staff in the secondary sector, which would have a direct impact on production costs of products.

Despite the potential risks to the competitiveness of important sectors in Querétaro, Kuri stressed the importance of finding a balance so that the reduction in working hours does not affect the productivity of companies. In this regard, he expressed his hope that this measure will allow people to have more time for their families and friends, without compromising Mexico's competitiveness.
