The state and municipal government of Querétaro announced the security and civil protection measures that will be implemented during the demonstrations scheduled for Saturday, March 8, in commemoration of International Women's Day. There will be a presence of female police officers and public services personnel will be deployed after the protests for cleaning purposes.
Carlos Alcaraz, Secretary of Government of the state, led inter-institutional working tables with representatives from Civil Protection and the 18 municipalities to guarantee the right to free expression for the protesters, facilitate their movement in the streets and plazas, and protect their integrity.
In Alcaraz's words: "We are entering this day in coordination that can be carried out through Civil Protection, of course with the emergency units, mobility secretariats that allow, of course, movement according to the route established by the different collectives, but always with the aim of safeguarding their integrity."
The municipal president of Querétaro, Felipe Fernando Macías, stated that he will work closely with the state government on the operation. "I have personally met with 10 collectives, activists in particular as well, in general, I believe that all have responded to the call of the secretariat and that door remains open,” he added.
Additionally, the Secretary for Women in the municipality, Vanesa Garfias, highlighted that since the beginning of the administration, meetings have been held with representatives from various collectives to include them in the construction of public policies in favor of women in Querétaro.
In 2024, around 20,000 women participated in the commemorative demonstrations for 8M in the capital. For this year, the participation of between 20,000 and 30,000 people is expected, according to the collective Adax Digitales.
