The municipality of Querétaro has announced a special security operation that will take place from Thursday, October 31, to Sunday, November 2, due to the Day of the Dead celebrations. The deployment will cover the 8 cemeteries in the capital and the 7 delegations.
The Public Security Secretariat has announced that a significant police presence will be implemented in the cemeteries, where approximately 160,000 people are expected to visit, as well as in the delegation offices, where various cultural activities will take place.
The Municipal Civil Protection Coordination has indicated that at least 100 personnel will be available, including rescue and medical care teams, to address any emergency situation. Surveys have been conducted to correct potential risks, such as open graves and swarms of bees.
On the other hand, the Mobility Secretariat assures that 80 officers will be assigned to close roadways near the cemeteries, especially in Cimatario and San Pedro Mártir. Additionally, the Public Services Secretariat mentions that there will be 600 workers for cleaning tasks, considering a possible generation of up to 20 tons of waste in the 8 cemeteries due to the presence of seasonal flowers.
The Government Secretariat will have 90 inspectors in Trade and Entertainment to supervise the 610 authorized temporary businesses on public roads in places such as Jardín Guerrero, Madero walkway, 16 de Septiembre, and in the vicinity of the Cimatario and Hércules cemeteries.
Federico De Los Cobos, Secretary of Government, has emphasized that the cemeteries will have extended hours during three days—November 1, 2, and 3—and urged citizens to celebrate the festivities in an orderly manner, avoiding the consumption of alcohol and objects that may pose a danger to other visitors.
"We are fully prepared to maintain a constant presence and work in coordination to ensure the safety of everyone, citizens and visitors, allowing them to honor their loved ones in a safe and peaceful environment," stated De Los Cobos.
