
In the state of Querétaro, family violence has increased significantly in recent years, placing it in first place nationwide in this area. According to the crime incidence report from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, in 2024, 5,567 investigation files were registered, making this the year with the highest number of cases in the last five years.
Regarding other crimes against the family, a notable growth has also been observed. From 2020 to 2024, a 62.1% increase was evidenced, rising from 201 files in 2020 to 326 in 2024. In previous years, there were 331 cases in 2023, 259 in 2022, and 256 in 2021.
The data reveals that the month with the highest incidence of family violence was May, with 578 files, followed by April with 536 and March with 518. In contrast, December was the month with the lowest number of cases, with 379. The upward trend of these types of crimes is evident in historical records, where a constant increase is observed over the years.
According to the report, Querétaro ranks 18th nationwide in these types of crimes, with a rate of 213.6 per hundred thousand inhabitants, exceeding the national average of 210.3. The state of Colima leads in first place, followed by Mexico City and Coahuila.
The Penal Code provides for penalties of 1 to 4 years of imprisonment for the crime of family violence, as well as the obligation to undergo specialized psychological treatment, penalties that are aggravated if violence is committed against minors. In relation to gender-based violence in its various forms, an increase of 8,072% was reported from 2020 to 2024, with a constant rise in the number of cases.
In summary, both family violence and gender-based violence have experienced concerning increases in the state of Querétaro, underscoring the importance of effectively and urgently addressing these issues.
