Allegations of Fund Misappropriation in Querétaro

The senator from Querétaro for the PAN, Agustín Dorantes, has called for the Morena deputy, Gilberto Herrera, to step down from his position to address a complaint regarding an alleged diversion of funds of more than 300 million pesos during his tenure at the Autonomous University of Querétaro (UAQ). Herrera stated that the Superior Audit Office of the Federation has not found any irregularities in the UAQ's accounts between 2012 and 2018 and refuted accusations of a smear campaign against him by the PAN.

In response to the accusations, Herrera mentioned that the relevant authorities, both the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) and the Attorney General of the State, have the complaint in their hands and must clarify the facts. He asserted that if he is not responsible for the alleged diversion, then he should step down from his position to facilitate the investigation, but if he is guilty, he must face the consequences.

Senator Dorantes condemned Herrera's challenge to the PAN legislators to request his immunity waiver and emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in public service. Dorantes stressed that corruption is one of the most serious evils affecting the country and that any improper act must be investigated and sanctioned.

The request for Gilberto Herrera's resignation comes after the former comptroller of UAQ, Alejandro Ramírez Reséndiz, filed the complaint for alleged embezzlement of funds. Dorantes urged Herrera to defend himself through the appropriate legal means and to prove his innocence if he has no responsibility in the case. It is expected that the prosecutor's offices involved in the investigation will clarify the facts and apply the corresponding sanctions, in accordance with current legislation.
