The deputy and political scientist Paul Ospital shared his perspective on the possible threats to the rights of Mexicans, sovereignty, the economy, and the security of the country due to measures announced by the former president of the United States. The latter plans to implement more aggressive policies towards Mexico, including mass deportations of migrants. Ospital emphasized that Querétaro, a state with strong foreign investment, could face challenges if these policies are carried out.
In a recent interview, the deputy mentioned the creation of the political party Somos México, driven by political figures such as Xóchitl Gálvez, Guadalupe Acosta Naranjo, Carlos Navarrete, and Gustavo Madero, who were previously part of the opposition. Although he acknowledged that the state of Querétaro has competitive advantages to mitigate the impacts, such as the recent investment announced by Amazon, he expressed doubts about the solidity of the proposal from the new political party. According to Ospital, it lacks a distinctive proposal and seems more like an opposition speech towards the current government than a project with clear principles and concrete proposals.
Despite his criticisms, the political scientist highlighted that democratic plurality allows such political attempts to find space in the political landscape. Regarding the international arena, Ospital underscored the importance of supporting President Claudia Sheinbaum against what he described as a "global harassment" led by Donald Trump.
