President Claudia Sheinbaum assured during her morning conference from Querétaro that the transfer of 10,000 members of the Mexican Armed Forces to the northern border as part of an agreement with the President of the United States, Donald Trump, will not leave the rest of the country unprotected. Sheinbaum stated that the decrease in personnel will not affect the overall security of the nation.
According to the president, the majority of the soldiers being sent come from the southern border, but they were selected based on the low crime rates in the regions where they previously operated. Some were already in the north and others are arriving from areas with reduced crime. Sheinbaum emphasized that the plan does not put security at risk in the rest of the territory.
Following a call with Donald Trump, working groups on security and economy were established with the aim of definitively avoiding, not temporarily, the imposition of tariffs. To fulfill these agreements, 10,000 members of the National Guard will be deployed to the northern border, focused on addressing issues of migration and combating the trafficking of fentanyl and other drugs.
The president assured that this deployment will also bring benefits for Mexicans with an increase in security in border states. Sheinbaum highlighted that not only will customs be monitored, but efforts will be made to prevent the illegal entry of weapons from the United States, thus confirming an important point of her campaign.
