The minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, Javier Laynez, expressed his dissatisfaction after the ministers Yasmín Esquivel, Loreta Ortiz, and Lenia Batres were invited to the ceremony on February 5, despite prior statements indicating that the Court would not be summoned. Laynez pointed out that the three ministers might be considered for the event due to their alignment with the Morena government, which could undermine their impartiality and neutrality in the exercise of their judicial duties.
"If it was already stated that the Court was not going, no one is invited, but those invitations surprisingly arrived; good for them, but I think it does not help them in their fight for the candidacy they now have," Laynez expressed. He also highlighted that the preference given to these ministers refers to favorable treatment towards those who support the current regime, while those who do not are often punished and mistreated.
According to Laynez, the exclusion of the Court members from the anniversary ceremony of the Constitution represents a significant defeat for the Judiciary as a whole, as it undermines both the integrity and independence of the institution. He warned about the negative effects this situation could have on the Mexican judicial system, especially at a crucial moment marked by political instability and fluctuations in foreign investments.
The minister urged the government administration to put aside political differences and focus on the importance of commemorating the Constitution, emphasizing the need to preserve legal certainty in a complex national and international scenario. Amidst a global context marked by political unrest, such as Donald Trump's presidency and its implications for the Mexican economy, Laynez emphasized the relevance of strengthening the Judiciary and ensuring respect for the law for the benefit of the country.
