Judicial Reform in Querétaro for March

The President of the Political Coordination Board in the LXI local legislature, Guillermo Vega Guerrero, announced that there will be a judicial constitutional reform in March, followed by the drafting of secondary laws in the coming months. These reforms will include changes to the organic law of the Electoral Institute. Although a delay in the established timeline is expected due to a second reform, it is hoped that the judicial reform will progress with the participation of the 18 municipalities in the next meeting to gather their opinions.

The Chairperson of the Board, Andrea Tovar Saavedra, indicated that efforts are being made to achieve progress this month. She highlighted the importance of hearing the views of the Judiciary in this process, for which a meeting with magistrates is scheduled for next week. So far, two forums have been held, and the need to organize more consultation events will be evaluated as required by the relevant commissions.

In the context of the expiration of the deadline for the approval of the local judicial reform, the presiding magistrate of the Superior Court of Justice, Braulio Guerra Urbiola, emphasized the priority of having a comprehensive reform, even if there is a delay in the established timelines. He clarified that this delay does not entail legal or administrative penalties, as it is one of the most complex and profound reforms undertaken in the country.

Guerra Urbiola stressed the need for Congress to take the necessary time to reflect and conduct the relevant forums and consultations in a process that requires consensus and the integration of diverse perspectives. From the Judiciary, this process will be accompanied with a neutral and impartial stance, aiming to focus the discussion on the individuals seeking justice. Legally, non-compliance with the established deadline for the reform does not carry legal consequences and only implies continuing into the year 2027.
