Controversy over Artificial Flowers for Day of the Dead in Querétaro

In the municipality of Querétaro, controversy has arisen due to the presence of decorations with artificial flowers of Chinese origin in the celebration of Dia de Muertos in Alameda Hidalgo. The Secretary of Culture allocated around 800 thousand pesos for these decorations, which include a monumental altar dedicated to local artist Pilar Vega.

The municipal Secretary of Culture, Daniela Salgado, acknowledged the mistake and informed that a supplier from the Secretary of Tourism was responsible for the selection of these artificial flowers. Despite the criticisms received on social media, Salgado indicated that the Chinese flowers would remain in place since payment for these decorations had already been made.

However, the municipal authority stated that the supplier must take responsibility for this error to prevent similar situations in the future. On the other hand, the technical secretary of the Secretary of Government, Juan Carlos Arreguín, defended the legality of the importation of these Chinese products, as the supplier had all the required permits.

In this regard, it was mentioned that the municipal administration promotes local trade and artisanal products, which is why the presence of decorations with artificial flowers of Chinese origin generated mixed opinions. The Secretary of Tourism and the Secretary of Culture committed to taking measures to prevent similar situations from occurring in future celebrations.
