Crossing times at the Reynosa international bridge have increased to 6 hours, impacting trade and tourism between Mexico and the U.S. Local officials are urging for more efficient inspections to reduce delays.

Long Wait Times at Reynosa International Bridge

The undersecretary of government for the northern region reported that the border port experienced long delays, with crossing times of up to six hours and lines of up to 10 kilometers. In light of this situation, local authorities requested that the Mexican Customs expedite the process to cross into the United States, especially due to the impact this has on entrepreneurs, merchants, and parents whose children study in Del Río, Texas.

In Piedras Negras, delays occurred at the international bridge number II, designated for cargo transport. The inspections carried out by the National Guard at international bridges have caused delays of up to 5 hours, affecting commerce, tourism, and the activities of those who cross the border daily.

The National Chamber of Commerce (Canaco) of Reynosa called on the authorities to conduct inspections at the international bridges in a more efficient and random manner in order not to hinder the commercial and tourism exchange between Mexico and the United States. Gildardo López Hinojosa, leader of the merchants, highlighted the importance of implementing security strategies that do not disrupt the vital economic flow for both countries.

Although the inspections are part of an agreement to strengthen border security between Mexico and the United States, the long lines recorded in recent weeks have generated discontent among visitors and merchants. Delays have been reported at various border crossings in Coahuila due to inspections carried out by the National Guard, which intensified as part of the bilateral agreements between both countries.

In Ciudad Acuña, specifically, the lines at the international bridge to Del Río, Texas, reached lengths of 3 kilometers with waits of up to two hours. The secretary of the City Council of Ciudad Acuña, Alberto de Luna Sánchez, mentioned the current situation of long lines due to inspections at the border crossing.
