In the early hours of Sunday, January 26, in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, blockades and gunfire were reported between factions of the Gulf Cartel, which impacted traffic and surprised drivers with spike strips. The Tamaulipas Security Spokesperson reported that around 07:00 hours, a risk situation was reported through a call alerting about blockades with trucks and spike strips on the Matamoros-Reynosa highway, at the height of the Palo Blanco ejido on the borders with Río Bravo.
In this context, the risk situation was caused by armed confrontations between rival criminal groups seeking to control the area for their illegal activities. In response to this situation, a security operation was deployed in the area to try to apprehend the perpetrators of violence, although so far there have been no reports of arrests.
During the early hours of the same day, gunfire was heard in several sectors of the highway between Reynosa and Río Bravo, an area where shootings are common. The State Government has issued alerts about the presence of explosive devices placed by criminals in four municipalities of the state, especially in dirt roads and rural paths, such as in the ejidos El Rincón, El Cortijo wind farm, El Porvenir, Los Alacranes, among others.
It is noteworthy that on Thursday, January 23, explosives placed by criminals exploded on a rural road in the municipality of Río Bravo, affecting an official vehicle of the National Water Commission (Conagua). Violence and criminal acts seem to be spreading throughout the region, generating concern among the population and local authorities.
