Mexico Seizes Two Million Liters of Fuel

The Attorney General's Office (FGR) reported the seizure of approximately two million 189 thousand liters of hydrocarbons, as well as various vehicles and infrastructure, after executing a search warrant at a property located in Reynosa. In a press release, the Attorney General's Office detailed that the search warrant was authorized by a judge after the Federal Public Prosecutor initiated an investigation file based on a Standardized Police Report (IPH) prepared by elements of the National Guard. According to that report, derived from an anonymous complaint, agents located a property where "hydrocarbons were possibly being guarded illicitly." The authorities carried out the intervention at the property, where in addition to the hydrocarbons, they seized 49 frac tanks, 18 tankers, six semi-trucks, a dry van, an artisanal tanker, a motor pump, 14 metal tanks, a forklift, a white plastic cylindrical tank, and a cubotank. The property and the seized assets were at the disposal of the Federal Public Prosecutor, which continues with the investigations for the crime of illegal hydrocarbon storage, with the aim of determining responsibilities. The operation involved elements of the Federal Ministerial Police (PFM), as well as experts from the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) in specialties such as field criminalistics, photography, and forensic chemistry. The actions were carried out in coordination with the Secretariat of National Defense, the Secretariat of the Navy, the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, state authorities, and specialized personnel from Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex). The FGR did not report any detainees in relation to these events. In 2025, Pemex reported losses of 23 billion 491 million pesos due to fuel theft, which represented an increase of 14.4 percent compared to 2024.
