The mayor of Salamanca, Mexico, Cesar Prieto, said yesterday on Facebook that a group of armed attackers killed 11 people and injured 12 at a soccer field after a match in the city. However, the motive for the attack is still unclear. Prieto added that a woman and a child were among the injured. He described the incident, which occurred during a community gathering in the Loma de Flores area, as "shameful and cowardly" and called it a serious social breakdown. "This incident is unfortunately added to the wave of violence we are seeing in the state, especially in Salamanca," Prieto said. "Criminal groups are trying to submit to the authorities, which will not happen."
