Guanajuato records 25 homicides in 3 days, including massacre in Salamanca

Guanajuato has registered 25 intentional homicides in three days, including 11 victims of an armed attack on people attending a soccer match in the municipality of Salamanca. The Governor of Guanajuato, Libia Denisse García, condemned the massacre in the Loma de Flores community and committed to finding those responsible. "What happened in the Loma de Flores community in Salamanca is an unacceptable act that deeply hurts the families of Guanajuato," she warned. The governor also ordered an urgent meeting of state authorities with federal forces and Salamanca officials, led by her Secretary of Government, Jorge Daniel Jiménez Lona. After the meeting, which included the participation of the armed forces, Jiménez Lona warned that there will be no impunity for the authors of the crime. Federal authorities' investigations also indicate that five of the victims of the multiple homicide worked for a private security company linked to the Jalisco Cartel, which is the main line of investigation into this crime. Investigations point to "Los Marros". Investigations indicate that the direct perpetrator of the attack is a man identified as Moisés Soto Bermúdez, the current leader of a group of hitmen called "Los Marros", a name that references the founder of the Santa Rosa Cartel, José Antonio Yépez Ortiz, who is currently detained. In addition to his possible participation in the Salamanca massacre, Soto Bermúdez is also accused of drug distribution, ordering homicides, and extorting producers in Irapuato, Guanajuato. "Los Marros" operate under the command of another alleged leader of the criminal group identified as Mario Eleazar Lara Belman, alias "Negro", "Camorro" and/or "Gallo", who is also identified as a generator of violence in the municipalities of Irapuato, Salamanca, and Celaya; he has an active arrest warrant for qualified homicide and is linked to the crimes of kidnapping, extortion, drug sales, and forced disappearance of persons. Soto Bermúdez and Lara Belman are considered priority objectives for federal forces, as they are generators of violence in the state and have pending judicial warrants.
