Violent Death of Ex-Mayor's Father in Tecamachalco

The body of the father of the former mayor of Tecamachalco, in the state of Puebla, was found on a property in the locality under alarming conditions: he had a rope tied around his neck and was leaning against a wall, suggesting a possible violent death.

On the morning of this Friday, around 8:30 AM, neighbors from the community of Lomas de Romero, in the Puebla municipality of Tecamachalco, reported the find of the lifeless body of Juan Asunción López Velázquez, father of the former mayor Inés Saturnino López Ponce.

The corpse was found on Camino Real Puente street, leaning against a wall with a rope tied around his neck. Although he was never prosecuted criminally, his figure continues to generate divisions among the residents. The death of his father occurs in a tense context, where violence and distrust in institutions continue to mark daily life in several municipalities of Puebla.

The State Attorney General's Office has already taken note of the case and has begun the corresponding investigations. However, the way the body was found—a rope around the neck, without visible signs of struggle at the scene, and in a public space—raises legitimate doubts about the context in which his death occurred.

Inés Saturnino López Ponce, the victim's son, has been pointed out on various occasions for his controversial management as the municipal president of Tecamachalco. During his administration, he accumulated accusations of alleged acts of political violence, misuse of resources, and confrontations with the local press.

The scene was secured by Public Security elements, who confirmed that the man was 78 years old, as mentioned by e-consulta. So far, the authorities have not released an official version on the causes of death nor has it been ruled out whether it was a suicide or a possible homicide.
