Feminicides in Tepic: A Tragic Weekend

On the night of Sunday, two femicides were reported in the capital of Nayarit. One occurred in the center and the other, two hours later, in the Vistas de la Cantera subdivision. Hours after the incident in the center of Tepic, Natalie Yoselin was identified, a young woman between 19 and 20 years old, a resident of the La Esperanza neighborhood, reported by a relative. The young woman admitted to having injured one of her aunts and her father with a sharp weapon during a party. Although Natalie Yoselin managed to escape before the authorities arrived, her relative collected the weapon used, and the search continues. In the Vistas de la Cantera subdivision, the femicide of Mayra Rocío was reported, stabbed by her husband José Juan, 46 years old, after an argument, according to statements from her 15-year-old daughter. The man was arrested two hours later when he was found walking near the bridge on the Aguamilpa boulevard. Nayarit has maintained a Gender Violence Alert against Women since August 2017, and at least 4 femicides have been recorded so far this year, including these last two. Despite this, the official record of the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System reports only one femicide up to the month of January, which occurred in Huajicori. According to figures from SESNSP, Nayarit ranks seventh in the rate of femicides per 100,000 women. During the month of January, two intentional homicides of women and 120 reports of domestic violence were recorded. Additionally, various cases of rape, willful injury, family violence crimes, sexual violence, sexual harassment or harassment, as well as emergency calls for incidents of domestic violence were reported.
