The Attorney General's Office of Nayarit reported that bone fragments found on Wednesday in the courtyards known as Los Pinos, within its facilities, do not correspond to human remains, according to a preliminary analysis by personnel from the Forensic Medical Service. Prosecutor Elvia Ludmila Heredia Verdugo confirmed the finding to the media and stated that search operations are carried out daily in coordination with collectives and authorities. During the press conference, a forensic medical expert from the Forensic Medical Service explained that a macroscopic and morphological analysis was performed on the evidence. «Two pieces of evidence were received at the Forensic Medical Service. First, evidence number two, in which various fragments of bone remains were observed, which, upon morphological assessment, do not have anatomical compatibility with human bones,» she said. The specialist detailed that the determination was based on the structural characteristics of the bone. «The cortex is of minimal thickness and its trabeculae or spongy bone is larger in size, which results in a lower density than human bone,» she explained and added that the fragments showed signs of environmental exposure. According to the preliminary analysis, the expert said, the remains would correspond to fauna. «They do not correspond to human characteristics, perhaps a small human species, or a cat or a medium or large-sized dog... they are not of the human species, they are of an animal species,» the expert specified. She noted that 50 bone fragments and one additional item that was not a bone were analyzed. Meanwhile, head of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for the Investigation of Missing Persons, Julio César García Jiménez, indicated that the discovery was made by personnel from the State Search Commission while conducting exploration work in the area. «They made the discovery of said remains, for which reason they report it and an incident report is initiated,» he explained and added that the fragments were not found buried, but on the surface. «These bones or fragments were found on the surface, they were not found buried, they were on the surface in an area where there was garbage,» he pointed out. During the press conference, the Attorney General was also questioned about the presence of clothing, footwear, and other objects found at the site, as well as files in trailers parked on the premises. In response, Prosecutor Heredia Verdugo reported that «the Internal Control Unit, the Directorate of Internal Affairs, and the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office were instructed to process the scene and establish the origin and timing of said custody.» She emphasized that if irregularities are confirmed, responsibilities could be derived. «Apparently, these are evidence that should be in an evidence warehouse; undoubtedly, if so, this would generate omissions and administrative and criminal liabilities.» Regarding the documents found in the trailers, the prosecutor stated that they are still under review. «I still do not have certainty that they are files; each one must be individualized, check the timelines and what matter they are about,» she affirmed. The official indicated that once the investigations are concluded, the public will be informed again. The collective demands access to the forensic report and questions the speed of the findings. The coordinator of the collective 'For Our Hearts', Rosa María Jara, stated that so far they have not received direct information from the Attorney General's Office regarding the forensic report on the bone fragments and anticipated that they will request access to the file to ask that the evidence also be reviewed by the federal authorities. «They have not told us anything, I am waiting for them to give us the relevant information to request that file and ask for the FGR to send the evidence there.» She stated that despite being at the facilities since the morning, they were not summoned to the press conference where the forensic report was presented. «We have been here since 8 in the morning and we were not invited to the press conference,» she said. Finally, the activist also questioned the speed with which the report was issued, because «the identification of bones of people found in clandestine graves takes a long time and now they did it in a matter of hours,» she added.
