Official arrested for assault in Tepic

On Wednesday afternoon, Omar Cordero, secretary of the State Council for Inclusion and Disability, was detained by the Tepic Police after allegedly assaulting several workers at the Tepic Potable Water and Sewerage System (SIAPA Tepic) offices. During the altercation, a police officer intervened to address the situation, but Cordero reacted by assaulting the officer who attempted to record the moment on a phone.

"We don't want an innocent man to lose his job due to the arrogance of a bad official," stated a woman who requested not to be named to avoid retaliation. She also mentioned that the official claimed to be related to the state's governor and could therefore demand the policeman's resignation.

Omar "N" was released, but the head of Public Security in Tepic, José de Jesús Ibarra, stated that due to this situation and after detaining the official, the agents from the Violet Patrol — addressing violence against women — reported the matter to the Attorney General's Office of the State of Nayarit for appropriate action.

In a statement, the officer's family expressed concern about Cordero's alleged threats against their father, insinuating that he would use his influence to achieve his dismissal. The officer's daughter emphasized that her father is a hardworking person and requested that no workplace retaliation be taken against him, stressing that he is a good and respectful man.

In June 2022, during the Pride March, Nayarit journalist Lorena Meza accused Omar Cordero and his partner of assaulting her during a live broadcast, but the State Human Rights Defense Commission did not provide a solution. Cordero's detention stemmed from the alleged assault on workers at SIAPA Tepic, which triggered an altercation with the officer who intervened in the situation.
