In early January, Fernanda Sánchez suffered a brutal physical assault by a person; however, she decided not to address the issue on social media to avoid generating morbid curiosity. Just last Monday, an unknown person attempted to take her life by throwing acid at her, leaving her with burns on her eye, mouth, nose, and face. In a heartbreaking account, Fernanda expressed her fear for the safety of her family and the fear of future attacks.
This is not the first time Fernanda has been a victim of violence. Earlier this year, she was assaulted by another female entrepreneur while working in her strawberry and cream business. The dispute arose over an alleged excessive payment that the other person demanded from street vendor business owners in the El Refugio neighborhood. Fortunately, in both incidents, her daughter and colleagues were unharmed.
In a moving video shared on social media, Fernanda made a call for justice and to capture the person responsible for these acts. She highlighted that she is not a criminal or a murderer, but a working mother fighting for the well-being of her family. She requested that the competent authorities intervene to ensure her safety and that of her loved ones.
According to Fernanda, acid attacks are considered a crime under both the Law on Women's Access to a Life Free of Violence and the Penal Code. The entrepreneur mentioned that the uncertainty about the type of chemical used in the attack heightens her concern for her health and safety. Through her brave testimony, she hopes that justice will be served and that events like these do not go unpunished.
