Amid the tension between Mexico and the United States due to issues of migration and violence, elements of the Mexican Armed Forces arrested an American citizen who attempted to bring an arsenal and ammunition from the United States. The arrest took place at the international bridge "El Chaparral" in Tijuana, Baja California.
According to information from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), after stopping a tinted truck for inspection, the agents discovered three long guns, two handguns, 19 magazines, over 2,000 cartridges of different calibers, as well as telescopic sights and a telescope in the vehicle. The driver, identified as Scott Harvey "N", was immediately detained.
The SSPC mentioned that, after intelligence work, it was discovered that the detainee and all the seized items are linked to a criminal cell generating violence in Mexico. Although it was not specified which group it belongs to, local press associates it with "Los Rusos", affiliated with the "Sinaloa Cartel".
The Mexican agency highlighted that the trafficking of weapons from the United States to Mexico fuels violence in the country, triggering an increase in crime rates. On the other hand, the United States plans to impose a 25 percent tariff on Mexican products, arguing the lack of action by Mexico to curb migration and violence.
In the midst of this situation, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that the country will expand the lawsuit it has maintained for four years against American gun manufacturers, following the classification of Mexican cartels as terrorists. The detainee was informed of his constitutional rights and placed at the disposal of the authorities to determine his legal situation and continue with the corresponding investigations.
