
A man was arrested in Tijuana, Baja California, in possession of firearms, cartridges exclusive for military use, as well as a variety of exotic animals during a raid carried out by the Attorney General's Office (FGR). The Federal Prosecutor's Office executed the search at a property in the Buena Vista neighborhood, where Juan José 'O' was arrested and protected and exotic animal species under investigation for possible wildlife crimes were found.
Among the seized animals are a Siberian tiger, a spider monkey, a mandrill monkey, a gopher tortoise, two horned owls, a lilac-fronted parrot, three bearded dragons, a chameleon, and a tarantula, among other specimens. After presenting the evidence before the judge, the Federal Public Ministry obtained the linkage to process of the detainee for his probable responsibility in the crimes of possession of firearms and cartridges exclusively for the Armed Forces.
He was imposed the precautionary measure of preventive detention and a one-month deadline was established for the supplementary investigation. Authorities continue with the corresponding inquiry concerning the seized animals and the possible crimes committed against wildlife. The detention and seizure of firearms and exotic animals are part of an FGR operation in the fight against illegal activities related to the protection of wildlife and flora.
