On Tuesday, February 25, Mexican authorities arrested Scott Harvey Daniel Lee Thompson, a U.S. citizen allegedly connected to the criminal faction known as 'Los Rusos'. The Secretariat of National Defense (Defense), Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), Attorney General's Office of the Republic (FGR), National Guard (GN), Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), and the National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM) participated in this joint operation.
Thompson, 41 years old, was intercepted in Tijuana, Baja California, while attempting to enter the country carrying a considerable arsenal and ammunition in his vehicle. The incident occurred at the 'El Chaparral' International Bridge that connects San Diego with Tijuana, in the San Ysidro area, during routine inspections.
During the inspection of the vehicle with tinted windows that prevented a view inside, authorities discovered three long guns, two handguns, 19 magazines, more than 2,000 cartridges of different calibers, three telescopic sights for firearms, and a telescope. In light of this, Thompson was immediately arrested and informed of his constitutional rights.
The detainee and all secured items were placed at the disposal of the corresponding Public Ministry agent to determine his legal situation and follow up on the investigations. According to the SSPC, after intelligence operations, it was determined that Thompson and the confiscated weaponry are related to 'Los Rusos', a criminal faction linked to Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada, leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, who is facing trial in the U.S.
