Protests Block Access to Tijuana Airport

Demonstrators in Tijuana threatened to block access to the city's International Airport until President Claudia Sheinbaum visits them to discuss the regularization of more than 2,000 properties in Ejido Maclovio Rojas. For over 36 years, residents have been waiting for a solution to their demands. With wooden barricades, cars, and tents, the protesters demand answers to their requests.

Martha Coronado, spokesperson for the group, explained that although around 40 property titles were delivered in previous months, they consider these documents illegal due to errors in the contained information, labeling them as false. "We need a meeting with the president to present what has happened. We believe she is not aware," Coronado stated.

The delegate of the Welfare Programs in Baja California, Jesús Alejandro Ruiz Uribe, visited the blockade area to talk with the protesters; however, no solution was reached as the residents' main demand is to have a direct conversation with Sheinbaum.

Due to the protest, travelers heading to the airport had to walk considerable distances to make it to their flights on time, asking for understanding regarding the demands the protesters are presenting to the Federal Government.

Residents of Ejido Maclovio Rojas express that they are fighting for something that has already been paid for by previous generations and that it is not fair to continue waiting for the regularization of their properties. The governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar, assured that the titles delivered to the residents are legitimate and that the commitments made have been fulfilled.

Despite the adverse weather conditions expected for the coming days, the protesters remain steadfast in their demonstration near Tijuana airport. It is worth mentioning that in a similar situation in May 2024, the protesters blocked a Pemex plant in Playas de Rosarito as a form of pressure to obtain the legal documents for their properties.
