Tlajomulco Government Recovers Homes in Arbolada del Mirador

The Tlajomulco government, led by Mayor Gerardo Quirino, has completed the delivery of recovered homes in the Arbolada del Mirador area. This is the result of a comprehensive plan that transformed one of the most problematic zones into a place with dignified living conditions. The project has become a national model for solving the housing crisis.

The government of Tlajomulco, led by Mayor Gerardo Quirino Velázquez Chávez, has completed the recovery and delivery of homes in Lomas del Mirador, now Arbolada del Mirador, as a result of a comprehensive strategy that transformed one of the areas with the most severe housing backlog into a space with livable conditions.

In May 2025, the mayor announced the launch of the Comprehensive Housing Recovery Plan, a route supported by financial, administrative, and inter-institutional coordination mechanisms, designed to facilitate the rehabilitation, occupation, and consolidation of unfinished or abandoned housing developments.

«The model we proposed from Tlajomulco has all the conditions to be replicated throughout the country, and it is being used as a reference so that other cities that also have this problem can advance in housing recovery, which, of course, gives us great pleasure in Tlajomulco,» the municipal official pointed out.

At the event were present the INFONAVIT Housing Reintegration Manager, Darío Aceves López; the National Guard Lieutenant Colonel Iván Roberto Matarana Sánchez; the General Director of the construction company BGI, Cynthia Aguirre Lagarde; the local deputy Luis Vidrio Rodríguez representing the Legislative Power; and the Secretary of Government, Salvador Zamora Zamora, as well as the councilors of the municipality.

«With actions like this, the Government of Tlajomulco reaffirms its commitment to rethink urban development from a more participative, equitable, and territorially conscious vision, transforming lagging spaces into environments with a future for its inhabitants,» the statement reads.

«Here is a great example that it is possible; what was an abandoned place, a subject of mockery, even a place where influencers came to show it as the Mexican Chernobyl, today is the new home for many families who are going to come and inhabit this beautiful land,» the mayor highlighted.

The Tlajomulco Housing Recovery Plan is structured on four axes: the recovery of overdue portfolio in coordination with Infonavit; the recovery of housing through private investment, as in this project; the facilitation of processes for the completion of housing; and the forgiveness of fines, surcharges, and prescriptions as incentives for its reactivation.

With the delivery of Arbolada del Mirador, Tlajomulco leaves behind the stigma of the so-called «Mexican Chernobyl» and opens a new era for the area, consolidating living communities where there was once abandonment, highlighted the governor of Jalisco, Pablo Lemus, who recognized the teamwork of the current municipal administration.

«President Quirino, I want to publicly recognize your great effort. Congratulations, president,» the governor highlighted.

In turn, the General Coordinator of Land Management and Public Works, René Caro Gómez, recalled the management process, inter-institutional coordination, and teamwork to achieve the recovery of the first homes in Tlajomulco.

«And precisely with this project, this Housing Recovery Plan that President Quirino, as you will remember, delivered to the President of the Republic —Claudia Sheinbaum— very close to here, when she inaugurated the ISSSTE Clinic, fortunately it found an echo in our proposal, with what the Federal Government and Infonavit, in particular, are developing in this plan throughout the country. This allowed to reverse the abandonment and reactivate the interest of families to inhabit the place,» he said.

As part of this first phase, the rehabilitation of 735 homes in the Arbolada del Mirador development was completed, to overcome the thousand homes that will be delivered in other polygons of the area.

Gerardo Quirino highlighted that this intervention model not only recovers housing, but also addresses the root causes of abandonment, by generating functional, safe urban environments with services.

«Today is an important day to continue reflecting that this is the path, the path of the reconstruction of our community, our state, and our country, through the active participation of all, of teamwork, governor. Today is a historic day for Tlajomulco and it is due to the work you led. Today, that strategy begins to give concrete results,» he noted.

«From this intervention, the municipality generated the conditions that previously prevented the repopulation of the area: urban infrastructure was strengthened, public spaces were promoted, connectivity and mobility were improved, and access to health, education, and employment opportunities was consolidated,» he added.

«I thank you again, on behalf of our entire municipality, that you have not let go of us, and I know that you are not going to let go of us. We are going to continue building that future that all our generations deserve, a prosperous future, in development and in better conditions for all».
