A specialized team of doctors carried out the procurement and transfer of two donated kidneys with the aim of providing a second chance at life to people on the waiting list. These kidneys were donated by the family of Ricardo Pérez, a 55-year-old man from the municipality of Tlaxcala, who passed away due to a severe brain injury.
The activity took place on January 24, and one of the kidneys was sent to the Regional Hospital of Puebla for transplantation, while the second kidney was managed by the National Medical Center "20 de Noviembre" in Mexico City to find a compatible recipient. The operation was conducted by medical personnel from ISSSTE and the National Transplant Center (CENATRA).
Dr. Jorge David López León, coordinator of the Organ and Tissue Donation Committee of HGIT, explained that this procedure was carried out following a strict institutional protocol. When there are no recipients at the local, regional, or national level within ISSSTE, the organs are channeled to the Ministry of Health to maximize the chances of finding patients.
In recognition of the gesture of love and solidarity from Ricardo Pérez's family, the medical deputy, the director of the hospital, and the coordinator of the Committee presented a recognition to the family. ISSSTE invites the public to join the noble cause of organ and tissue donation, and those interested can register as voluntary donors through the portal of the National Transplant Center (CENATRA).
