An act of generosity in difficult moments took place with the organ donation of Ricardo Pérez, which will provide a new opportunity for life to two people who were on the waiting list. Ricardo passed away due to a severe brain injury, and his family, with his support, made the generous decision to donate his organs.
In case no available recipients are found at the local, regional, or national level within the ISSSTE, the organs are channeled to the Ministry of Health to increase the chances of finding compatible patients. The Medical Subdelegate, Leonel Vázquez Nava, the hospital director, Daniel Martínez Rocha, and the committee coordinator presented a recognition to Ricardo Pérez's family in honor of their heroic gesture of love and solidarity during such a difficult time.
The altruistic donation from Ricardo Pérez's relatives successfully facilitated two kidney transplants for a 55-year-old man at the ISSSTE General Hospital in Tlaxcala, providing new opportunities for waiting patients. The procedure was carried out by a specialized team from the Regional Hospital of ISSSTE Puebla in coordination with the Organ and Tissue Donation Committee of the HGIT and the National Transplant Center (CENATRA).
The kidneys were transported to the Regional Hospital of Puebla and to the “20 de Noviembre” National Medical Center in Mexico City, where a compatible recipient is located. The coordinator of the Organ and Tissue Donation Committee of the HGIT, Dr. Jorge David López León, explained that the entire donation process follows strict institutional protocols to ensure its proper execution.
ISSSTE, led by Martí Batres Guadarrama, calls on the population to join the noble cause of organ and tissue donation, recognizing the value of gestures like that of Ricardo Pérez's family, who, amid pain, chose generosity and solidarity.
